Bud Johns (7/9/29 - 2/15/19)

We are sad to note the passing of Bud Johns, who was a longtime and enthusiastic champion of Tamarind Institute. An avid print collector, Bud’s wide-ranging collection included a large number of Tamarind lithographs, many of which were included in a significant gift to the Corcoran Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C. Bud was an active member of Tamarind Advisory Board for years and was a good friend to Tamarind staff and students. He and his wife, Fran Moreland Johns, provided generous support for Tamarind’s new facility which opened in 2010, as well as funding for Tamarind Printers Around the World, a video series highlighting print studios established by Tamarind-trained printers in the United States, South Africa, Germany, and Hong Kong. Bud’s keen eye, warmth and intelligence, and his ready smile will be dearly missed.
